Kath and Dave Hyde

Kath and Dave were involved in Scouting and Guiding all through their lives. Not only that but their three sons were scouts in 2nd Olton. Michael, Stephen and Andy all went through the Group and Mike and Andy both became leaders in Solihull.

Dave and Kath’s example, enthusiasm and drive have been an inspiration to everyone.

Dave was leader and founder of 1st Olton Senior Scouts which later became Triton-Vandyck Joint Venture Scout/Ranger Guide Unit. He led many international expeditions with them and the unit had a close partnership with 1 st Kristiansand Scout Group in Norway. So close that their younger son Andy married one of their members and now lives in Norway, leading a scout group there. Dave became ADC Ventures in the old North District, ACC Ventures and International Adviser.

Kath, a former guide leader,supported Dave in his Scouting and after Dave’s premature death took important roles in Scouting as a very active ACC International and as County Secretary. She, like Steve has for the 2007 jamboree, organised fund raising and arrangements for previous jamborees.

When Kath died her sons decided that they would like to donate a generous sum to Solihull Scouting to advance International Scouting in the County. Part of this, with their full support, was for an International Flag to be taken on expeditions by County, District and Groups.
