Beaver Activities
There are nine Beaver Colonies within the County - xx in Blythe District and xx in Cole District.
They each run their own individual programmes according to the guide lines laid down by Scouting every week. Each Colony has a different “feel” according to the character of the children and adults. They all cover a variety of activities including games, arts and crafts, visits from people in the local community such as Guide Dogs for the blind, the Police and local veterinary practices. The children are encouraged to take part in community activities such as packing bags in local supermarkets, selling Donkey Derby programmes, or attending the Armistice Parade. Colonies also visit the Fire Station, the cinema, and the local swimming baths, they may go sledging at Ackers Trust as well as attending computer sessions at a local secondary school.
There are also District events where all the Colonies are able to join together. At these occasions there are usually about one hundred children present along with their Leader support. These events compliment the individual Colony activities and provide the youngsters with wider opportunities and the possibility of meeting other children with the same interest in Scouting.
Over the course of the year typical District events are:-
An after Christmas Party
Swimming Gala – with the rest of the District
Visiting a local scout groups pantomime
Saint Georges Day Activities (including Cubs and all other branches of Scouts)
A visit to a place of interest and/or a Fun Day
Carol and Gift Service, this follows individual Colony fund raising for a local charity.
Other activities planned are:-
Summer football activities evening
